Rusty or Broken Exhaust
Exhaust systems are subject to constant exposure to heat, moisture, and road salt, which can cause them to rust and corrode over time. This can be especially true in areas with harsh winter weather conditions where road salt is used to melt ice and snow. In addition, road salt contains corrosive chemicals that can accelerate the rusting process of metal components, including the exhaust system.
When the metal in the exhaust system corrodes, it can weaken the system’s structural integrity and cause leaks from holes or breaks, leading to increased noise and decreased performance. This is why replacing a rusted exhaust system with a new one is essential.
An efficiently running engine when it cools the exhaust gasses carbon dioxide condenses and water can sometimes be seen to exit from the tailpipes, this is normal however the water also corrodes the exhaust from the inside as well as from the elements outside and becomes one of the main reasons to change an exhaust system.
Replacing an exhaust system with a mild steel one doesn’t make sense as it will have limited life, so it’s best to have a custom stainless steel one to outlive the car for total peace of mind. For many people, getting hold of a replacement exhaust from a manufacturer is like finding hen teeth, but the cost can be thousands of pounds if you do.
When the engine cools down completely and exhaust gasses exit the combustion chamber, water and carbon dioxide condensation can be noticed much more. In a moment like this, you see water dripping from your car’s exhaust pipe. But, again, this is normal; you don’t have to take your vehicle to a professional.
Stainless steel is often used to manufacture aftermarket exhaust systems because it is more resistant to corrosion and rust than traditional steel. Stainless steel contains chromium, which forms a protective layer over the metal that helps prevent rust and corrosion. It is also more durable than regular steel and can withstand higher temperatures without degrading or corroding.
One thing to be careful of is that if a hole develops in an exhaust, then oxygen can be sucked in, which can cause significant damage to catalytic converters due to the heat generated; in some instances, vehicles have been known to catch fire, so if you notice a sound change or spent gasses entering the carbon, get it sorted as soon as possible.
Replacing a rusted exhaust system with a stainless steel one can improve your vehicle’s performance, reduce noise, and extend the lifespan of the exhaust system. A stainless-steel exhaust system can also give your car a more aggressive look and sound. Let Profusion Customs build you a lifetime-warranted exhaust so you don’t have an exhaust issue again.
