Decat / De-Cat or
Decat Pipe

A Decat / De-Cat or Decat Pipe is simply a straight piece of tube that is used to replace a catalytic converter. This decat method is favoured amongst tuners, as it reduces the restriction of the catalyst, however doing this renders your vehicle illegal to drive on the public highway and a vehicle that has had a decat is suggested for off-road use only.

Modern engines have a sensor positioned after the catalytic converter which sends information back to the ECU instructing the ECU how to control the fuel/air mixture. With the catalyst removed, this will send incorrect information, and the ignition timing is readjusted to run lean, this could result in power loss and even cause the ECU to go into limp mode.

A better option is to have a sports catalytic converter installed, which will give the vehicle a better flow and send the correct information back to the ECU for an efficient burn.
