Muffler Delete

One upgrade customer’s often ask us is a muffler delete, when we ask them where they received this advice from the reply is always the same. I have read on forums and informed that there is no need for me to have a custom-built exhaust to improve the sound of my car all I have to do is a muffler delete, all I have to do is to cut out and remove the silencers, I have also seen some YouTube videos, and it sounds insane. I want the same, so please quote me to cut out the muffler and replace up it with a straight pipe. It seems the buzz words like straight pipe my exhaust sounds like the perfect solution, but it isnt.

What social media fails to show is the negative impact it can have as it is not suitable for every car because every car is different. As exhaust specialists, we often turn away this type of work simply because we are usually booked months in advance where customers have taken this route only to regret their decision, and we are asked to install some silencers back in again. The same applies to a resonator delete; there is a reason why silencers are positioned at specific points in an exhaust system. They are there to control the sound and minimise the drone; this is the dreaded booming sound which can make driving almost impossible, starting a car in the morning one realises the mistake.

Muffler deletes are a favourite of boy racers who want to be heard way before they are seen but even after some time they get fed up and want to revert to a more controlled sound. Muffler deletes have different effect between a petrol vehicle and a diesel. In contrast, the drone is amplified dramatically, in a petrol vehicle. A diesel engine is somewhat different, even removing the entire exhaust system there is little difference in sound even at idle but with silencers removed there is a small gain in tone at the higher rev range. In contrast, a turbo vehicle sound of the turbo whistling can be heard.

The other reason why people choose a muffler delete is to save money and increase the performance; however, performance mufflers are designed to do just that, improve the performance and control the sound. Run your car over so the exhaust technician can understand precisely how you want the car to look, perform and sound and give you a quotation according to your criteria, the ultimate result will be a happier customer with an excellent sounding exhaust system.
